Our government should fight for our brave soldiers overseas who have put themselves on the line to serve our country. The trouble is the Republicans in Washington, D.C. have frustrated this mission through poor choices and bad management. And they are unable and unwilling to change their failed course. My opponent is one of them. He said recently that we should just trust the President, and has voted 93% of the time with the right-wing Republican leadership in Congress. We can take this country in a new direction by: Helping families who work hard and play by the rules get ahead through investments in education, healthcare, and training our workers for new jobs with good wages; Holding our government accountable by requiring that it be open and honest with the American people it serves; Achieving real energy independence and breaking our addiction to oil by making investments to make us a world leader in the growing market of next generation energy; Committing to a strong, intelligent, far-sighted national defense which uses our military strength wisely and shares the international burdens of power in smarter ways through diplomacy, alliances and international investment. I need your help and your commitment to win this. Please contribute, volunteer, and tell your friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Together we can take this country in a new direction To Go to Darcy's Website click on her picture ![]() ![]() Jean Marie Christenson State representative District 2 Position 1 Click on her picture to take you to her website ![]() Judge Susan Serko Click on her picture to take you to her website ![]() ![]() Judge Frank Dacca Click on his picture to take you to his website ![]() You are now reading a message from the new Democratic candidate for King County Council District #9. It should be very interesting and The Liaison List as I know it may suffer some loss, but I would be interested in knowing who would be interested in more of the same. Now you think. More of his stuff? Well in a way it is about more of the same in politics. But either way, I would like your input on either the past material or the process I hope to be working for. This is a about three: Politics, Partisanship, and the Process. It involves three as well: Money, Message and Mechanics. What is the Message? Balance. It takes all of these things to have balance and it may wobble a bit, but without change there would be no progress and without these parts there would be no hope. Where is the hope? Having faith in the process and the parts. Now faith to me is a personal thing, but my concerns about the world and my strong views are available to input. If this seems like hard work, it is not all on my shoulders. I'm here for you, I hope you are here for me. One thing I do know is, that it is tempting to blame it on others. In the current state of affairs, that is what we hear a lot of. It may be that there is something wrong with the process, but that is what we are here for. If you are here you are part of the process. For those that are not be here, or are participating on the other side, I hope, they must have faith in the process or they really have nothing to complain about. In some ways what you are reading is my stump speech. My goal is to bring my concerns about world affairs down to a level that is more local. The alternative may be that our problems be more local. Sincerely, Roger Larson P.S. You knew there would be one. I would really appreciate any fine tuning of the above and what follows is more of the story as it has unfolded. Friends: Maybe news has reached you that as of last night I am the King County Council District #9 Democratic Candidate. If you have any ideas on how to say that fast I would appreciate them. Seriously, little things like that would help and believe it or not I am serious. Not that I will leave my sense of humor behind, nor necessarily run on or from anything you have seen from me in the past I will try to tone it down in mixed company. You few, are the first that I am sending this to, as I did let you into the loop a bit, and my apologies if I did not give enough time for your full participation. Fran Thomas nominated me, being a long time friend and with a little of my background in note form, proceeded to steal the rest of my speech that was rattling around my head, so it was somewhat of a time saver. I joked, after I was approved by acclamation, that I should have insisted on a count, with my background as an observer for the Gubernatorial Race as well as a counter. A few laughed, who could hear above the din of enthusiasm. It was exciting. Now I have to carry that and my concerns to the street. It will be about running as a Democrat and a Progressive, or as Ron Sims says I am a Blue Democrat. The main issue for the campaign may be the Growth Management and Critical Areas Ordinance acts. They are both something that I feel I need to know more about, but have had some experience with, having built a house in the city of Bellevue and being an apartment owner in unincorporated King County. This may not be a prominent issue for the two Republicans against each other, but I hope to make it less dividing and one that brings common sense, if not uncommon sense, to everyone. ( A term that I hope we will not have to quibble about being framing or un-framing.) That is all for now, but would recommend the George Lakoff book as a primer of sorts, and it has been recommended that I read Cathy Allen's book. I have my own view of communication (as well as politics, as you probably well know) but I would appreciate your take on their take as well.
